Adult Driver Education


Driver training options for adult drivers include Abbreviated Adult and Limited Term License.

Columbus Driving School offers adult online and virtual programs to meet your driver education needs.

Abbreviated Adult Programs
An applicant for an initial driver's license, who is age 18 or older and who fails the first attempt at the maneuverability or road portion of the driving test, is required to take an abbreviated adult driver training course before attempting the driving test for a second time.

The course will consist of one of the following:
• A 4-hour in-person class followed by 4 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed instructor with a licensed abbreviated adult driver training school.
• A 4-hour state-approved online course followed by 4 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed instructor affiliated with a licensed abbreviated adult driver training school.
• A 4-hour in-person class followed by 24 hours of driving with a licensed driver 21 years of age or older*.
• A 4-hour state-approved online course followed by 24 hours of driving with a licensed driver 21 years of age or older*.

*Applicants who choose the option for 24 hours of driving with a licensed driver 21 years of age or older cannot complete more than four hours of driving in one day. In addition, applicants who choose this option are required to complete the twenty four hour affidavit.

Limited Term License
To get an Ohio Limited Term Driver's License, adults 18 and older need to complete a 24-hour classroom and 8-hour in-car driver's education course, pass a vision and knowledge test, and provide a 50-hour driving affidavit. This license is non-renewable and non-transferrable.

Here's a breakdown of the requirements:
• Driver's Education Course: Complete a 24-hour classroom and 8-hour in-car driver's education course.
• Age: This applies to adults (18+) who are applying for their first license or who have failed the maneuverability or road test.


Adult Drive Package
Consists of 2, 4, 6 or more hours of training for adults who desire assistance in learning to drive for the first time or brushing up on their driving skills.


18 - 20 year old

The State of Ohio requires 18-20 year olds to complete a driver education course that includes 24 hours of classroom instruction and 8 hours of behind-the-wheel training. Driving Schools of Ohio offers the following programs to meet the State of Ohio requirements. You can take this course Online to complete the 24 hours. (Or have completed an online course with another provider). After completing the classroom hours you are required to complete 8 hours of driving instruction with a licensed instructor. (We offer the 8 hours of driving separately as well). These hours are administered 2 hours at a time; you will need 4 lessons total to meet the requirements. Why not bundle and save!

Online Bundle package:

Program provides you with 24 hours of online (self-paced, self-directed) instruction from EZDriveOhio.com plus 8 hours of interactive in vehicle driving training. Meet's all of state's minimum training requirements.
